As we embark upon a new year (July 1, 2009 – June 30, 2010) in the life of the Sunny Isles Chapter® (S.I.C.), let me first say that we appreciate you looking in on us. Being the Chapter’s fifth President, I trust that this website will inspire you to join this august body of professionals who hail from around the Bahama Islands. In that vein, I take the opportunity to welcome you to explore “a whole new world”.
My goals this year involve seeking ways in which we can assist and engage various members, of our community, by lending our time, talents and treasures to them. Some of the projects proposed, or to be continued, are: Bilney Lane Children’s Home, Cancer Society of The Bahamas, Princess Margaret Hospital’s Blood Bank, Ministry of Education’s Reading Programme, the implementation of a Student Chapter and the effective use of the media to showcase our members and events. We are also seeking to possibly assist other charities, located on one of the Family Islands. The strategies that will be employed to reach our various, and varied, goals this year will be creative, bold, and innovative. These will call for our members to be actively involved, aggressive in their approach, and diligent. Having been intimately involved with this organization since it was chartered on December 4, 2004, I have no doubt that we will “climb every mountain, forge every stream, until we reach our dream” (interpretation from a song in the movie ‘Sound of Music’).
S.I.C.’s membership continues to flourish with Administrative Professionals from government, banking and the private sector and today are pleased to invite even more to join our ranks. The Bahamas can, and should, expect greater things from this Chapter and we look forward to celebrating many more “firsts” as the sole purpose of this Chapter is to engage in the pursuit of the mission and vision of the International Association of Administrative Professionals®. After having won Honorable Mention in the 2009 Avery Great Results Chapter Achievement Awards (sponsored by Avery-Dennison) and the Chapter of Excellence Awards in 2009, under the Presidency of Mrs. Shornell Ellis, this Chapter is aiming to achieve those accolades again, and to add to them. We have no doubt that with teamwork and effort we shall reach our goals.
Under this year’s theme: “Creating Togetherness Through Co-Operation”, I seek to empower our membership through facilitating interactions in and around our community and ultimately the world, via the internet. If you are curious to find out more, please peruse “About SIC”. To discover who we are, and how we do things, please check out our “Photo Album” and “Newsletters”.
